And Brandon said....

You may be through with Brandon Marshall, but Brandon Marshall is not through with you Roger Goodell. Brandon Marshall appealed his three-game suspension on Thursday. Marshall's lawyer, Harvey Steinberg said that there would be an appeal, but that was around the time that Marshall was suspended.

Don't expect much to come from this, it is unlikely that this appeal will have the upstart receiver suited against the Oakland Raiders or San Diego Chargers (at least not the first time Denver plays the two teams). However, Marshall will most likely be able to make it back by the game against the New Orleans Saints, but this appeal isn't going to make that decision any easier on the commissioner.

Shots Fired: Steinberg vs. NFL

It's been awhile since we've had a Shots Fired column, well the dry spell has ended:

"It just shows you what a class organization that we're dealing with that Mr. Marshall and his attorney find out about this as the result of a press release,"Brandon Marshall's attorney Harvey Steinberg said. "They didn't even have the courtesy to contact Mr. Marshall directly or his lawyer. The league appears to be more concerned about its image than treating its players with dignity and respect. The best part of this is we get to appeal this suspension to the very commissioner who chose to suspend him in this fashion."

Steinberg later commented on the, "Conditions," that the league insisted Marshall would need to follow in order to be considered for a possible lightening of a sentence.

"I hope they will send me a letter detailing exactly what they mean," Steinberg said.

Mr. Harvey Steinberg does make a very good point, let's see how the NFL responds.

It's Official: Marshall Suspended...

"It's not enough to simply avoid being found guilty of a crime. Instead, as an employee of the NFL or a member club, you are held to a higher standard. Persons who fail to live up to this standard are guilty of conduct detrimental and subject to discipline, even where the conduct itself does not result in conviction of a crime."

The National Football League has suspended Denver Broncos wide receiver Brandon Marshall for three games, as was reported on Sunday by NFL Networks Adam Schefter. Marshall's attorney Harvey Steinberg says that he will appeal the sentencing.

Harvey Steinberg, fans may remember, is the same attorney who successfully won the appeal for Travis Henry last season, which ultimately led to Henry not being suspended by the NFL at all. Well, at least until after the Broncos cut him.

Brandon Marshall verdict coming soon...

The Denver Post's Mike Klis reported that Broncos wide receiver Brandon Marshall met with NFL commissioner Roger Goodell last week for two and a half hours. Also in on the meeting were Broncos great Rod Smith and Broncos great attorney Harvey Steinberg.

This is how it started for Dallas Cowboys corner back Adam Jones, Cowboys defensive tackle Tank Johnson and free agent wide receiver (soon to be Dallas Cowboy) Chris Henry... The later two were suspended for eight weeks, while Jones received a full-year suspension.

Despite not being convicted of a single crime since being drafted by Denver, Marshall still most likely will receive some form of suspension. As Goodell has said previously, it is not enough to just avoid conviction, the employees of the NFL should avoid the situation all together. No more wrong place at the wrong time waiver.

The fact that Smith accompanied Marshall could mean that he could avoid a suspension... Depending on what was said.

Broncos Cornerback Karl Paymah convicted of DUI

The Denver Post is reporting that Denver Broncos corner back Karl Paymah has been found guilty by an Arapahoe jury of driving under the influence of alcohol after being found, "Asleep or unconscious at the wheel of his Land Rover 50 yards off of Arapahoe Road at South Parker Road at about 5 a.m. on May 26, 2006."


Two-years ago!? Don't we all wish that a certain other Bronco could get postponed this long. Wonder if Harvey Steinberg was Paymah's lawyer as well. I guess the good news if Steinberg was the lawyer, he's going to come even harder for his next DUI trial (hopefully not until September), but I feel sorry for whomever the good old City of Denver brings.

Early prediction: Steinberg wins in a close battle in a late 4th Quarter drive.

Marshall says arrest was a shake down by his ex...

I'm going to do this "In His Own Words" style, the Rocky Mountain News is the first to post an interview with Brandon Marshall, that's where we got the quotes. I'm going to withhold judgment, I'm the first person to say that someone can change and usually the second to say women can be crazy, but where there's smoke, there's fire...

Let me catch you up, just a bit before you dive into the couple of quotes below. Marshall's ex-girlfriend admitted to "striking Brandon in the eye" during the March 2nd, 2008 fight. Also, over a 13 month period his ex-girlfriend's lawyers sent several e-mails claiming the Marshall had agreed to putting Rasheeda Whatley (Marshall's ex-girlfriend) up in a furnished apartment for a year, buying her a car comparable to her BMW 645, putting $30,000 into her bank account and that a settlement of $150,000 would be accepted (which later dropped to $100,000).

Prior to that Whatley through her lawyers had demanded $500,000 within 30 days. This is six weeks after the July 17th, 2006 incident (the 'blocking her in with his car' incident).

Brandon Marshall, in his own words:

"Basically, what it was is I had just gotten into town and the relationship was basically over. I told her it was time to end it now and she didn't like that," said Marshall, who owns a home in the Atlanta area. "We've been dating off and on since the eighth grade and she said, 'I'm going to ruin you.' The only thing I did was try to get out of the house."

"If you look at Brandon Marshall's history, almost all — except the DUI — are about her," said Marshall, referring to himself in third person. "That's been my biggest problem is that I just ignored it. I thought we could work it out. ... Now, looking back on it, I can laugh about why I stayed in that relationship. I mean, it was ridiculous."

"Absolutely," he said. "You read the demand letters, 'Give me a BMW, furniture, what I'm used to, cash?' Come on."

“I can look you guys in the eyes or the camera, or I can tell you guys I am a good person. Like I said before, if you ever see me in the grocery store or the movie theater, you can always stop and talk to me.”

No wonder we have no clue whether or not Marshall can catch a pass, he can throw up a decent gang sign though (thanks BroncoTalk) while partying in the same club Javon Walker was in prior to being kidnapped and beaten the week before. If you troll the message boards like I do or if you caught Champ Bailey's interview on XM Radio earlier this summer, when he was backing the Broncos bringing Chad Johnson to Denver... Then you know what fans were saying about drama and begging Denver not to bring Johnson in. You may also remember when Terrel Owens was eating dinner at the Shanahan household and how fans were freaking out.

I'd take Chad Johnson/Terrell Owens ("That's my quarterback!") drama over Brandon Marshall drama right about now. Come on Brandon, get your shit together, between you and Marcus Thomas, a Denver Bronco should never leave the state and NEVER go to Florida (or Georgia apparently) unless John Lynch is showing you around. PR nightmare, thank God this is happening before the season, yet still the looming DUI incident which is scheduled to take place sometime in September. You better not cost us my predicted 13-3 season.
